On March 17, 1842, women of unrelenting faith and zeal gathered together in the upper room of Joseph Smith's Red Brick Store in the first organization of the Relief Society. Today, women of the Church, and all those who support them, celebrate the 173rd anniversary of that first meeting. Since its inception, the Relief Society has become one of the largest women's organization in the world and has given countless hours of service and charity to those in need. President Boyd K. Packer promised the women of the Relief Society:
Your every need shall be fulfilled, now and in the eternities; every neglect will be erased; every abuse will be corrected. All of this can come to you, and come quickly, when you devote yourself to Relief Society.
