In Memory of Robert LaVell Golding (1940 - 2012)

Robert LaVell Golding passed from this life at the age of 71 on March 18, 2012. Cancer can be difficult, but Robert handled its challenges valiantly and without complaint, always caring for his family. Born October 21, 1940, the second of five children, to Marion LaVell Golding and Crystal Golding, he grew up in Wellington, Utah.
A graduate of Price High School, he attended Carbon County College, before relocating to Salt Lake City. It was in Salt Lake City that he met his future wife, Shirley Klinger. They were married on October 1, 1960 and were later sealed in the Las Vegas Temple. They recently celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on October 1, 2010, surrounded by their family of four children, thirteen grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.
Robert excelled in athletics. He played football and was a member of the wrestling team at Price High School and at Carbon County College; he enjoyed the challenge, hard work and teamwork. As an adult, he took up skiing and golf, excelling at both.
He loved sports, waterskiing, boating, golf, family gatherings and activities. Professionally, he was a Sales and Marketing Manager at Pepsi Cola Company in Salt Lake City, Utah and a Sales and Marketing Executive at CBS in Las Vegas, NV.
A dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many leadership positions and recently served a mission as a member of the Puerto Princesa Philippines Mission Presidency. He loved the missionaries he worked with and he built meaningful relationships with the local leaders and members. He loved the Philippine People.
He was loved and respected by those he associated with; family, neighbors and friends, they brought much joy and pleasure to this life. He touched and blessed many lives with his love, concern, devotion and service, most especially his family.
Robert is survived by his wife Shirley, children Jack (DeAnne) of Mukilteo, Washington; Kathy (Steve) Chapman of Sandy, Utah; Brad (Kerry) of Denver, Colorado and Bart of Aurora, Colorado; his grandchildren Justin, Mark, Wendy, Jared, Jenny, Heather, Robert, Preston, Amy, Amanda, Ryan, Tyler, Austin; and 34 great grandchildren; he is also survived by his sisters LouJean (Ellis) Willson and Louise (Leland) Willson, and many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his loving parents Marion LaVell and Crystal Golding, his brother Kent Golding and brother Christen Golding.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 23rd at the Sandy Utah Crescent Ridge Stake Center, 1265 East 11000 South, Sandy, Utah. Friends and family may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 22nd at Memorial Estates, 3115 East 7800 South Salt Lake City, Utah and at the Stake Center from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be at Memorial Estates.

  1. Oh how Bob and I loved Bro Golding and his dear sweet wife!! He will be missed!! He was a powerful example to us...in positive attitudes and service!!

  2. now he is in heaven with fluffy my dog... him and Shirley would take care of him when i had to work...he loved fluffy as fluffy loved Bob...Bob had a hard time calling him fluffy so he called him snake...he made me laugh ....He was a wonderful man in my life and him and his wife Shirley helped me through so many hard times in my life in las Vegas and help me become a better person in my life as I live and work in Salt Lake City Utah... Forever I will cary the knowledge that he taught me throughout my whole life... sure Shirley you're in my thoughts and you're in my prayers....love and miss you Cynthia Ewell
