Second Annual: Christmas Around the Ward

This year's "Christmas Around the Ward" was a great success.  The Beckers, Goldhardts, Grafs, Kanenwishers and Lowe's graciously opened their homes to members of the ward, friends and neighbors.  Each home was individually and beautifully decorated along with plentiful scrumptious food being served.

The Open Houses opened at 3:00 PM and the last of the visitors left at 8:00 PM.

Members could be seen walking around the neighborhood all evening, enjoying one another's company and the scenes of Christmas.  With so much to do over the holiday season, it was a wonderful way to touch base with one another and become acquainted better with our ward family.

Many thanks to those who spent many hours of hard work in preparation for this evening of inspiration as well as to those who partook of the opportunity.

Merry Christmas Bloomington 7th Ward!

A Ward Family Christmas Together

Last night members of our Bloomington 7th Ward enjoyed each other's company along with a delicious meal of ham, potatoes, jello salad, rolls, corn and scrumptious chocolate cake.
Tonal Eclipse, the Barbershop Quartet, also treated us to a musical show which left us feeling the Spirit of Christmas.  Of course, the highlight for the children is a visit from Santa Claus.  It was a magical way of uniting us and getting us in the holiday spirit for the Christmas season.

Many thanks to all who participated.  Bro. and Sis. Dove and the food committee provided a wonderful dinner.  The Young Women decorated the tables and the Young Men served.  Many hands made this activity possible and we appreciate everyone's participation, sacrifice and hard work in bringing about a memorable occasion.

Merry Christmas Bloomington 7th Ward Family!

In This Very Room

Our youth had the privilege of hosting and carrying out a Halloween activity for the Green Valley Special Needs Mutual last week.  They arrived at the church early to set up and be instructed in a prayer meeting on how to be a special helper to the "angel friends" who would be attending.

There are currently four special needs mutual programs running in Washington County. Each program has a Young Men's Presidency, a Young Women's Presidency and all the counselors and advisors that a regular mutual would have.  These leaders plan and hold activities very similar to the ones that our youth participate in.  Special Needs Mutual meets weekly and participates in scouting, personal progress, courts of honor, dances, talent shows, and many other activities.

The Bloomington 7th Ward YM and YW helped their new friends decorate sugar cookies, paint pictures, play pumpkin bowling and sing songs.  Everyone had a wonderful time enjoying each other's company and friendship.  The theme for the Special Needs Mutual is, "In This Very Room".  Our ward was blessed to hear a performance of this musical number accompanied with sign language.  The Spirit was very strong as they sang, "For Jesus, Lord Jesus....Is In This Very Room." There is no doubt of the Saviors love for all His children.

Serving the Special Needs Mutual is an opportunity that our youth will never forget.  Friendships were forged, service was given and the Spirit was felt in abundance. These "angel friends" are an inspiration.  Our youth know that when they served them, they received much more than they gave.

Our ward was also blessed to be able to hear the Special Needs Mutual come and speak and sing at Sacrament this last Sunday as well.  We will miss their great hugs and the joy they brought to us and we look forward to seeing them again. Thank you to all those who made this activity possible.

Geology Field Trip

The Seasoned Singles of Bloomington 7th and friends, had the opportunity yesterday to participate in a educational Field trip taught by Bro. Steed, a geologist and professor.

Bro. Steed prepared a route and made arrangements for rides to take the members in the mountains high above Cedar City.  There we learned about the Clarion Lake, conglomerate, coalescing sink holes, solution caves, vesicular lava, hoodoos, as well as many other details about how and when these formations and events took place.

Some of our stops on our geological tour were:
Navajo Lake
Ice Lake
Mammoth Caves
Mammoth Springs
Cedar Breaks

Thunder could be heard rolling in the distance but kept at bay during the picnic lunch provided by Valerie Swanson and the other sisters.  We were treated to some entertaining cowboy poetry and great company.

It was an educational, enjoyable day for all who attended.  Many thanks to those who participated and organized this wonderful event.  Thank you especially to Bro. Steed for sharing his wealth of knowledge and time as well as Sis. Swanson for her fried chicken and shepherding skills.

Getting to Know Katelyn

Katelyn Taylor, now a member of the Bloomington 7th Ward, grew up and moved here from Idaho Falls, ID about a year and a half ago.

Her son, Brecken, is a very energetic three year old stud.  He is chock-full of personality, and will always turn your frown upside down.

Katelyn grew up dancing most of her life.  She loves running, kick boxing and enjoys most any kind of fitness routine.  She is currently a student in the new Physical Therapist Assistant program at Dixie State College.

We are so blessed to have this dynamic duo in our ward!  Welcome Katelyn and Brecken!

We Welcome the Bertschi Family

James and Anne Bertschi and their family have recently moved to the Bloomington 7th Ward from the Santaquin/Genola area in northern Utah. Originally, James is from Akron, Ohio and Anne is from Elko, Nevada, but now call St. George their "home".

The Bertschi's have 4 children:
Kaci, the oldest is 21.  She lives with her husband here in St. George and works at Dillard's while her husband, Josh, is attending Dixie College.

Saige is 19 and attends Snow College in Ephraim where she has one year left.  She is currently home for the summer break.

Levi is 16 and will be attending Dixie High School this fall as a Junior.  He loves to golf and is just getting used to driving.  His parents warn, "Stay off of the sidewalks!"

Cache is the youngest at 11 years old.  He is very social and loves to have friends over.  He is your typical energetic, lego loving, Star Wars watching young man.

The Bertschi's enjoy boating and being on lakes.  They moved to Utah County in 1997 from Las Vegas where Bro. & Sis. Bertschi met while James was serving in the Air Force.  They lived in Santaquin and Genola for the past 14 years.  They are business owners and have been for most of their married lives.  They are sometimes accused of "practicing for retirement".

We welcome the Bertschi Family!  We are grateful to have them in the Bloomington 7th Ward.

To Girls Camp They Go...

The Young Women began their Girl's Camp experience today high in the mountains above Beaver.  They traveled through mountains and over water, set up tents and were ready to go by early afternoon.

They were instructed on altitude sickness, wildlife rules, tree pushing, and fire safety.

Thank you to the leaders and parents who have made this possible for our Young Women.  We can't wait to hear about their adventures.
